A12N-Collaboration
Mar 24, 2002
A12N-Collaboration is a new short-term working group for collaboration on certain technical aspects of use of African
languages in ICT. Its purposes include:
1) facilitate communication among individuals working on codepages for scripts of African languages;
2) promote collaboration on other projects on technical aspects of use of extended Latin-based character sets and non-Western scripts on computers and the internet; and
3) contribute to laying the groundwork for a separate, broader-topic, and open-archive list(s) on African languages and ICT.
For more information see:

and/or contact me (address below).
Also FYI ...
Current plans are to close the "Hausa charsets & keyboards"
message board http://www.quicktopic.com/8/H/JxKHyg9ccPUVB in
favor of the above, "Unicode-Afrique" (for Francophones, at
http://fr.groups.yahoo.com/group/Unicode-Afrique ), and
Hausa-L (for language-specific topics) - a list that
apparently will be making a transition of its own soon.
These efforts will hopefully generate useful information sources for creation of multilingual web content, software localization, font design, etc. in Africa.
