Year of African Languages (2006-7)
The Year of African Languages was scheduled to begin in 2006, and launched at the African Union on 20 June 2006. It was organized by the African Academy of Languages and continued until July 2007.
It is described on that site as follows:
The 20th of last June, the YOAL has been officially launched at the African Union’s headquarters in Addis-Ababa by the Ethiopian Vice Prime Minister, on his sides the President of the African Union Commission and his collaborators, and in presence of the diplomatic corps and the partners of the African Union. The YOAL is a commemoration of the 20th Year Anniversary of the Language Plan of Action for Africa (ILPAA).
