Celebratory days about language(s) are one way of focusing attention on the importance of languages. David Crystal has suggested this category as one of the key ones for International Year of Languages (IYL) in his "LADDA" schema.
Key days
International Mother Language Day, February 21, is probably the most significant of these. In 2008 it will also be the date on which IYL will be formally launched.
